Hi, and welcome again to another one of our Whitefish Wednesday videos. My name is Chris Surridge. I’m director here over at Whitefish Marketing. And today we’re just going to have a quick look, a very quick video here about GMB listing or Google My Business listing. How to optimize your Google My Business listing, really.

It’s fairly straightforward, and just follow the process that they offer you, the wizard. But I just wanted to touch point on just a couple of things. First and foremost, your business name. Make sure you just put in your business name as it is. Don’t add in any locations or keywords, unless you are known as “ABC Folkestone Accountants” and it has the word Folkestone in it. Leave it off. So only put in what your business name is. So leave off any location tags, leave off any keywords and so on and so forth. Use those in your main description later on.

Google My Business Main Description

So then we come to the main description. You’ve got 750 characters is the full description. Do go ahead and use the whole 750 characters. Again, we’re talking about how to best optimize your Google My Business listing. There is a shortened version, which is 250 characters, which can be displayed. So try to get your most important information early on and put that in the first 250 characters, because that’s what’s going to be displayed before someone has to click on the Read More button.

So again, this is the place that you want to put in your location, prefixes or suffixes. This is where you want to put in all your keywords and your main data and so on and so forth, in that description area. You’ve got 750 characters to do so.

Google My Business Photos

Next, add in some photos, okay? People sometimes get to add in photos. Photos have, I think it’s something like 35% more chance of a click-through because of photos. So do you consider adding in your photos. Your profile photo, very, very simple. It’s what everyone’s going to see on your Google My Business listing. So just add in a profile photo. Any other photos, you’re looking at about 750 or 750 pixels in size, and you can offer a range of different types of photos that you can upload there, such as external shots of your business, internal shots of your business, photos of your team, happy photos of customers, so on and so forth. So again, there’s lots of different things that you can put up there in terms of your photos, plain and simple as that.

Google My Business Videos

And the last thing is your videos. You can upload a video. Many people don’t realize this, but you can actually upload videos to your Google My Business listing. It’s about 30 seconds long, a hundred megabytes in size, and it’ll help you stand out away from the crowd. Simple that. Upload a video if you can.

So once again, have a look at your business name. Make sure you don’t add in any erroneous details in there. Description, make use of the full 750 characters, but put the most important information within the first 250 characters. Do upload a profile photo. Do upload other photos, 750 by 750 pixels. And you’ve got a choice of whatever you want put up there. And if possible, do upload a video as well. It’s as simple as that.

Right, that’s a simple way to optimize your Google My Business listing. Other than that, do keep posting on your Google My Business listings. Do keep posting on your Google My Business posts, I should say, sorry. It is another form of social platform and it will help you rank higher for your localized searches. Any questions, as always, just drop us a line, hello@whitefishmarketing.co.uk, or just call 01303 720288.
