FAQ Schema for accountants explained

For many businesses, showing up on the first page of Google for certain keywords is no longer enough. There’s a bigger goal: to appear with an enhanced listing, which will drive more search traffic and cement your firm’s authority.

To have the opportunity to rank with an enhanced listing, it’s necessary to use structured data i.e. information that’s organised in a way that makes it easy for a machine to understand. Structured data for web pages involves labelling author names, images, review content and FAQs.

For FAQs, the structured data explicitly tells the search engines the specific question that is asked and the answer. It essentially sign-posts the fact that your website has the information required by the user searching that particular question.

Why use FAQs and FAQ Schema?

In addition to the opportunity for an enhanced listing and more traffic, there are several reasons to implement FAQ sections and FAQ Schema on your site.

Firstly, it creates a better user experience. You may have provided some comprehensive detail about a particular service you offer, such as auditing, but many users still have questions. Rather than adding more paragraphs of text, an FAQ section provides a simple format for customers with specific queries. It makes finding the answer to their question easier and faster, giving them a better experience.

In addition, FAQ sections on your pages can help conversions. Not only can users find answers quickly, an FAQ section placed at the bottom of a page can ensure potential customers aren’t distracted by reams of text. The answers can be hidden, delivering a smooth experience for those who want to invest in your service.

Should I add FAQ Schema to every page?

Not all pages will benefit from having FAQ Schema. For example, if your page speed will be impacted by the addition of an FAQ section which requires Javascript to function, it may be better to include answers to commonly asked questions in your main body copy.

FAQs should always be relevant too, and the section should answer questions that aren’t covered in the body copy. If there’s no use for them on a particular page, leave them out.

If there are no FAQs on the page, you will not need to add the FAQ structured data. Indeed, doing so could result in a penalty from Google.

How to implement FAQ Schema

If your site is built on WordPress, you can add a plug-in that enables you to implement FAQ structured data. If not, you can ask your accountancy marketing provider or developer for help. Just remember that everything that exists in the structured data of your page must also appear on the page itself – so don’t add FAQ Schema where there are no relevant FAQs.
